ALTHOUGH they come from separate worlds, fashion and music always have been related. The two forms may speak to us in different ways, but their messages come across in tandem.

They exist in a symbiotic relationship. One feeds off the other and vice versa.

Nirvana and the grunge movement helped make flannel and anti-fashion popular in the 1990s. Hip-hop artists set trends that fans follow. Model Kate Moss and singer Pete Doherty have been, well … interesting for the tabloids.

When it comes to video games, the perfect partner always has been comic books. The two naturally inhabit the space of male power fantasies. The thrill of reading how Spider-Man defeats a supervillain is akin to the feeling of empowerment when controlling Kratos in “God of War.”

In another sense, the two have nurtured each other in the past. Check out old comic books, and fans will see advertisements for games such as “Frogger.” Go to the ComicCon, and there’s a big gaming presence.

But when superheroes are involved, the flow usually has been one way. Developers have made titles based on Superman or Wolverine, adapting their stories to gameplay. Unfortunately, it never has worked the other way around. Developers have never created their own video game that happened to star an original superhero.
