Fable III announced as Xbox 360-exclusive Posted: 20 Aug 2009 04:59 AM PDT
To quote the press release: “Alexander the Great. Genghis Khan. Queen Elizabeth I. Che Guevara. Throughout history, revolutionary leaders have taken very different paths to power, bringing about prosperity and poverty, peace and sometimes anarchy to their people — ‘Be not deceived. Revolutions do not go backward.’ — Abraham Lincoln” Peter further explains: “The third child is always the problem child. The third game of any series tends to be a bit of a lull. We want people to expect the unexpected. Fable III will be new, fresh and different. I think there’s something fundamentally wrong with RPGs like Fable. The mechanics have been around since the ‘80s. I’m going to take that foundation and throw it away. I want players to feel and experience what it’s like to be a ruler.” Fable has always been about players making their own choices an dhaving it effect their destinies and the consequences of how the world is shaped due to their actions. They are taking that to the Nth degree with Fable III, by allowing the players to literally rule the kingdom of Albion. “In this new adventure, players will witness tyranny, poverty and injustice plague their land. They will see a people divided, and they will be compelled to stand up for change. They will also be forced to answer a question: What would you sacrifice to secure the crown of Albion? Will you uphold the values and principles that led to your ascension, or will you be corrupted by the station you’ve strived to acquire? Will you be a monarch of the people, or bring the entirety of Albion to the brink of collapse?” “We’ve spent a lot of time at Lionhead thinking about how we can innovate the gameplay and progress the world of the Fable games for its third chapter, and we’re confident that players won’t second-guess what we have planned for Fable III,” said Molyneux, who also serves as creative director of Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Microsoft Game Studios. “Though I can’t give too much away right now, players should expect to have to make much tougher choices with far wider consequences than ever before in Albion— and with many more interactive adventure elements.” Here is a trailer for Fable 3. In the epic story of Fable III, the journey to rule the throne of Albion begins five decades after the events of the last chapter, and you play as the child of your hero from Fable II. As you rule your kingdom as king or queen, you will be called upon to make choices and sacrifices that will test your morality and can affect your entire kingdom. Themes of heroism, leadership and consequence are taken to a grand scale as you fight to unite a divided people. |

SS3 Broly confirmed to join Dragon Ball: Raging Blast cast as game-exclusive transformation Posted: 20 Aug 2009 04:58 AM PDT
Never seen in the Dragon Ball Z movies, Broly’s SS3 will appear as part of a “what-if” scenario in the story mode. This is one of the two “exclusive characters” said to be coming to Dragon Ball: Raging Blast when it’s released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in November 2009. The Super Saiyan 3 transformation was also shown off in the new trailer released by Namco Bandai on the GamesCom 2009 tradeshow in Germany. The Legendary Super Saiyan Broly was pretty much unbeatable in his SS2 transformation, so you can be sure his SS3 form is going to be crazy awesome! Watch Broly go SS3 near the end of this official Raging Blast trailer: As always, the fans and me will keep you updated on the Dragon Ball: Raging Blast character list page. Scans via Xboxevolved |

Fable II becomes episodic. First chapter a free download on September 29, 2009 Posted: 20 Aug 2009 04:35 AM PDT
However to make the load of the gigantic game easier to digest, Fable 2 will be split into five chapters, so that you can download it a chunk at a time. What’s more, the first chapter of the game will be available for free! And if you at any time buy the actual retail disc, your saves will work with either version. “This is great from a developer’s point of view. You could buy the next episode, or buy the whole thing – keeping them in-game,” said Peter Molyneux at Microsoft’s GamesCom 2009 tradeshow in Germany. Additionally, the Knothole Island and See the Future DLC expansions are fully compatible with the downloadable version. |

Suda-51’s Kurayami action-adventure game a PS3-exclusive Posted: 20 Aug 2009 03:22 AM PDT The next game from eccentric game designer Suda-51 (Killer 7, No More Heroes) has been revealed, and to the surprise of some, it is a PlayStation 3-exclusive called Kurayami. The game is an action adventure title that is inspired by the writings of Franz Kafka. In the game you are stranded in a strange town and must explore it and a castle to find your way out. Your character carries a torch that he uses to both light his way as well as to fend off “unexpected and unexplained horrors” that await you. The game has an advanced lighting engine and uses new technologies and graphical techniques to impress upon the viewer a feeling of “fear and loneliness”. Which is in keeping with the name of the title, as “Kurayami” means “Darkness” in Japanese. Definitely sounds intriguing. And certainly looks it as well. Check out more Kurayami screenshots at Gamekyo. |

BioShock 3 already beyond conceptual stage Posted: 19 Aug 2009 10:03 PM PDT
He told 1UP that Bioshock 3 is already beyond the conceptual stage of development. To quote: “I know they’re working already . . . We already have plans, and have worked far beyond the conceptual stage for a follow-up project after BioShock 2,” said Hartmann when asked if 2K Marin was going to end up as “the BioShock studio.” “What that is, I can’t announce; I can’t tell you obviously. But so far, they’ve completely exceeded my expectations.” Bioshock 2 meanwhile has been delayed to the first half of 2010, from it’s original release date of November. It will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Via VG247 |

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories release date is October 13, 2009 Posted: 19 Aug 2009 09:15 PM PDT
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a new re-imagining of the first Silent Hill. It takes the original, and much like Resident Evil Remake did, alters it in a way that stays true to the original while also offering an entirely new game for those that played the 1999 PS1 original. The game is abundant with innovative new features, including a “Psyche Profile” element, which monitors the way the player approaches the game and alters the game accordingly. Players begin by answering various questions from a psychiatrist, and these replies and their reactions in the game result in their individual psyche profile – which affects various situations in the game. The player guides Harry Mason as he attempts to unravel the mystery of his missing daughter, Cheryl. The game watches the player and adapts according to the psyche profile. The result is a clever twist to the game’s terrifying moments – depending individually on the player and his actions. Here is a gameplay video of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories in action followed by an official trailer. I think it looks amazing. The graphics are fantastic too. |

This can be deduced simply by the ending of the game. *SPOILER ALERT* Your mission is to take out Alma, but at the end of FEAR 2 she’s still alive and even worse . . . she’s pregnant. An open ending if I ever saw one. FEAR 3 coming? You betcha. Here is a look in video form at the ending of FEAR 2. *END SPOILER* Currently Monolith Productions is hard at work on a new first-person shooter for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It could be anything . . . a new FEAR, a new Condemned, a new No One Lives Forever. We’ll have to wait and see to find out. That said, FEAR 2 was well received with a Metacritic average score of 77-79%. It was also enough of a commercial success to warrant the creation of downloadable content. The story of which involves four new levels and will follow a Replica by the name of Foxtrot 813. So financially a sequel makes sense as well. |

Advent Rising 2 and 3 would be made if it’s up to Donald Mustard Posted: 19 Aug 2009 08:22 PM PDT
Advent Rising was a third-person action adventure game with a strong story written by Orson Scott Card. It was supposed to be the first game in a planned Advent Rising trilogy, but those plans were dashed when the game bombed. It’s publisher, Majesco Entertainment, was then strapped for cash and nearly went out of business after a series of its high profile games, like Advent Rising, sold terribly. As a result, they re-focused all their energy on creating portable and casual games. This lead to a huge turnaround for the company with big successes like Cooking Mama, but spelled the end for the proposed Advent series (which also had a PSP game called Advent Shadow in the works, but it too never saw the light of day). There has been some speculation online that the Advent series may be returning, but Donald Mustard put that speculation to rest in a post on the official Chair Entertainment web-site, where he addressed the rumors. “First, I’d like to confirm that our next project is NOT the second installment of the Advent trilogy or anything related to Advent. We are currently working on a completely new franchise, which you’ll hear more about later. Second, although our Core Design Team is comprised of several key members of the Advent team, we currently do not own the rights to the franchise (Majesco owns the IP) so we don’t have the ability to continue the series at this time. Lastly, I love Advent. We all LOVE Advent. It was designed as a trilogy and it’s an incredible story. I will always remain committed to the franchise and would be happy to finish the series if the opportunity presented itself. For now, we’ve got much bigger things in store for you. We’re moving in a new and very exciting direction, a direction that we control. We’ll keep you as up-to-date as possible and hope you’ll continue to always let us know your thoughts.” – Donald Mustard It was very disheartening to see how Advent Rising performed and to see the poor reviews it received. I was really excited about the game before it came out. But stayed away due to its critical reception and low review scores. Some day I’ll probably buy it and check it out though. If you want to play the game, you can download Advent Rising on Steam for $10. Here is a trailer for Advent Rising. While it still looks cool, it is amazing how 3D games age. Back then these graphics were absolutely jaw-dropping. I remember being floored and showing this trailer to everyone I knew. |
