Best-selling game of all-time in USA is Wii Play Posted: 20 Jan 2010 10:44 PM PST
The NPD has just released their list of the top games of all time in the US of A, and there are some big surprises. Although those who have been following game sales for the last few years, may not be all that surprised by the winner . . . Without further ado, here is the list of the top-selling games of all time in the U.S.: 1. Wii Play (Wii) Exact sales numbers for all the titles were not released, but there are a few specific numbers that are known. As of last October, the sales of Wii Play stood at 11.1 million units for the United States. While Guitar Hero III has sold 10.2 million units on all available platforms. Meanwhile, GTA: San Andreas has sold 9.8 million units if you combine the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 1 versions of the game (PC sales don’t count). Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 stands at 8.82 million copies sold for Xbox 360 and PS3 in the USA; and has a worldwide gross of over $1 billion. Phew. Via GameSpot |

Last Rebellion release date on PS3 is February 23, 2010 Posted: 20 Jan 2010 09:19 PM PST
In this action role-playing game, there are 2 main characters you can play as: a guy named “Nine” and, and a girl named “Aisha”. Nine has specialty in physical, brute force attacks (known as the Blade Class) while Aisha has specialty in magic attacks. She can also “Seal” enemies, which is why she is known as a Sealer Class. The big draw here is that players actually switch back and force between the characters during the turn-based battles, while also sharing a single “turn”. Thus the player must strategically think about when and where to use their special attacks and skills. Each and every enemy will be vulnerable in a certain manner, which means players will want to learn how to take them out most effectively. Additionally, combat is “realistic”, meaning that taking out an enemies legs will slow them down, while head attacks will hurt the enemy more. Any area on the body of the enemy can be targeted, upping the strategy involved. Here is a trailer for Last Rebellion from the Tokyo Game Show. Key features of Last Rebellion include: * Tactical battle system with interchangeable main characters. |

Star Trek Online subscription prices detailed Posted: 20 Jan 2010 07:39 PM PST
Like most Massively Multiplayer Online games, Cyptic will be charging the industry-standard price of $15 a month to play the game in a normal manner. However there will also be several plans in place for those players who want to dedicate a longer amount of time for play in the world of Star Trek. If you want to pay a yearly price, it will cost you $120, which amounts to $10 a month. This is pretty good and is essentially like getting four months for free, as opposed to the total charge of $180 that it’d cost to pay the standard $15 a month rate for a whole year. You’ll be rewarded with perks that include two additional character slots if you go this route. But the yearly subscription model will only be available until February 2nd. So you better jump on it if you are interested. Then there is the LifeTime subscription. This will cost you $240 and is the price of $16 individual months or two yearly subscriptions. This too ends on February 2nd, but will net you bonuses of two additional character slots and a Starship Captain who has recently been reclaimed from the Borg. “This subscription pricing and launch promotion announcement is one of the last steps we take before officially releasing Star Trek Online,” said Craig Zinkievich, Executive Producer on Star Trek Online. “We are absolutely thrilled to reveal these final details and we are incredibly excited about launching Star Trek Online this February. For us, this marks the beginning of our game’s life — a life of new adventures, discoveries, and dangers. Truly, ours is a universe that will never stop expanding and we simply cannot wait for people to experience it with us.” Here is a look at the Discovery Class starships in this trailer video. |

BioShock 2 downloadable content confirmed by 2K Marin Posted: 20 Jan 2010 07:13 PM PST
To quote him directly from the interview, when asked about the possibility of downloadable content for the epic sequel, he states: “Absolutely! We are working on pretty aggressive plans for DLC and that’s actually something that is already under-way. That is something that is mostly being run out of the Marin studio because like I said the Australian studio is already ramping up on the next big thing.” What this downloadable content will entail or any details about it weren’t devulged, so we’ll just have to wait until the game actually releases on February 9th before we can learn more. GTA: Chinatown Wars released on iPhone/iPod Touch for $10 Posted: 20 Jan 2010 07:03 PM PST
The iPhone version of GTA: Chinatown Wars contains everything that its big brother versions (that is, the DS and PSP releases) contain but is slightly less graphically impressive than the PSP version, although better looking than the DS version. The time of the city in the game will change based on the realtime clock of the iPhone, so when it is night in real-life it will also be so in the game. In this version, you control Huang Lee similarly to how Gameloft’s Gangstar works, using virtual buttons and a virutal joystick to make your character run, drive, shoot and perform all the nefarious deeds required of you. All of the mini-games contained in the DS version also appear here in their original form (unlike the PSP version) thanks to the iPhone’s nifty touch-screen that allows it to replicate the DS perfectly. It also may be of note that the game contains a ton of swearing, and doesn’t seem to be censored at all from previous versions of the game. It definitely lives up to its Mature rating. Here is a video that looks at the iPhone version of GTA: Chinatown Wars, in addition to gameplay footage, you can see how the cut-scenes look, how the mini-games work, and how the voice-over comes in during the intro. Looks very slick indeed. Via toucharcade |

One Earth MMO / TV Series to be the next Big Brother? Posted: 20 Jan 2010 01:22 PM PST
Not only will the events of the game and the show go hand-in-hand, but what happens in the game will effect the TV show and vice versa. Players who do good enough will not only have the chance to be mentioned in the TV show, but could even appear in it! “The show can tell them that there will be an alien invasion at a certain place in the game, at a certain time, and to be there with all their friends and be ready.” said the SyFy Channel’s Dave Howe. “The outcome depends on them. And then that battle will be part of the universe in the show.” This is a pretty interesting concept, cause you have to imagine how exciting it would be to know that your character was part of a major battle in the show or that you influenced what is happening on people’s TV screens. All the details of how exactly this will all work have yet to be ironed out, but the concept for the game with a matching TV series dates back to 2008 and the developers have recently secured major financial backing, so it looks like it will be a reality soon enough. However it’s a big question mark whether or not the game, or the show, will be able to draw enough users to be successful. Much less be interesting enough or done well enough to work properly and keep people interested in both or either product. It definitely has me intrigued though. Via incgamers |
